I used to think I was doing this Fat Pride thing for myself, but I realized today that I’m not. I want to change the world. I want every girl who has ever felt shame about her body to stand in the sunshine and declare herself beautiful. It’s so painful to see girls, beautiful, sweet, loving, gorgeous girls hate themselves over a societal standard that is not only ridiculous and insulting, but also impossible.
You, the one reading this, you are beautiful. Whatever package you came in, whatever skin you wear. YOU ARE SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. And you should never forget that. Celebrate your beauty loudly and without apologies. Dance nude. Squeeze your curves, hug yourself. Paint hearts on your body, take pictures of yourself naked. Flood the Internet with your beauty. Show the world that it can go fuck itself for all you care. Because no matter what crap they fling at you, no matter what hateful words they use to describe you, you should always know in your heart that you are a glorious creature.
Stand up for your right to be beautiful. Join the revolution of body love. If you feel all alone in your struggle, look around. Women everywhere are struggling with you. Reach out to your sisters in combat and fucking hug them. Tell them they are beautiful. When was the last time you went up to the biggest girl on the street and said “Oh, by the way, you are the prettiest girl I’ve seen today.” You can’t imagine the joy that spreads on their face when they see how sincere you are.
We are all fighting this together, whether we know it or not. And every comment you make about other people’s bodies can either hurt our cause or help it. No more body snarking. No more hateful eyes. Every women is your sister, and even if you can’t see it, she’s struggling too.
Thank you all for being my inspiration, my stronghold and my passion. Thank you all for sharing your beauty with me, and for showing me what it means to love my body.
